Playing chunk-transferred DASH segments at low latency with QLive

Abstract: More users have a growing interest in low latency over-the-top (OTT) applications such as online video gaming, video chat, online casino, sports betting, and live auctions. OTT applications face challenges in delivering low latency live streams using Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) due to large playback buffer and video segment duration. A potential solution to this issue is the use of HTTP chunked transfer encoding (CTE) with the common media application format (CMAF). This combination allows the … Show more

“…Although there are remarkable solutions that adapt the quality successfully, satisfying stringent low latency requirements, especially in live video streaming, is still an issue [18]. The use of HTTP Chunked Transfer Encoding (CTE) with the Common Media Application Format (CMAF) is a promising solution to solve this issue [18,32,33]. This approach allows clients to receive smaller parts of the segments and to start playout before the segment is fully downloaded.…”

“…Yadav et al [16] proposed a combination of techniques collectively called QLive in which they have tried to resolve the fundamental problem of bandwidth estimation for lowlatency live streaming by using existing chunk parser and filtering of downloaded chunk data. They have used an Apache Web server to host the dash.js media player.…”
