Pleura and Peritoneum

Abstract: The pleura and peritoneum are both lined by a single layer of mesothelial cells which provide a supportive function for the enclosed organs. Most tumours involving these structures are metastses from visceral malignancies. In the pleura, this is most frequently the lung and in the peritoneum, this is usually the female genital tract or colorectum.
