“…This difference was already apparent after 3 years of our trial 26 and became smaller than the differentiation by C org . This confirmed the results obtained by Stockfisch et al 38 , who consider the C mic -to-C org ratio to be an early indicator of an enhancement of C org . Angers et al 40 found a C mic -to-C org ratio three times greater under RT compared to CT in 0-16 cm after 11 years of silage maize rotation and low input of organic matter.…”

“…A strong differentiation of the microbial biomass between tilled and untilled layers under RT was found in the present experiment; this corresponds with the results obtained by other authors 9,25,51,52 . While we also found greater microbial biomass C in the 10-20 cm soil layer, others reported no difference 9 in ATP contents 36 or less microbial biomass 25,38 in the untilled layer. Microbial biomass is strongly affected by freshly added organic matter 52 .…”

“…Our results confirm those by Ros et al (2006b) who were able to show differences in C mic and basal respiration among the different treatments and a general decrease of these properties with soil depth. Another explanation for the lower C mic may be soil management effects since our samples were taken 7 days after ploughing, which changes the accessibility of organic matter and oxygen to the microbes (Stockfisch et al 1999;Balesdent et al 2000). Ploughing also mixes the lower soil layers low in microbial biomass with the upper soil layers.…”

“…No entanto, a intervenção mecânica com preparo convencional de solo em SPD de mais de 20 anos tem resultado em menores estratificações de C no perfil de solo com menores teores de argila (Stockfisch et al, 1999;Vandenbygaart e Kay, 2004). Em regiões de clima temperado, mais de dois terços dos estoques de C em solo franco arenoso em SPD com baixos teores de C foram perdidos em poucas semanas após mobilização ocasional do solo (Vandenbygaart e Kay, 2004).…”
