Plume-lithosphere interaction in the generation of the Tarim large igneous province, NW China: Geochronological and geochemical constraints

Abstract: Correlations between isotopic and trace element ratios indicate that some dikes with low Nd (t) and low initial Pb isotope ratios could have been subjected to crustal assimilation. We propose a model involving plume-lithosphere interaction to account for the two discrete magmatic episodes with distinct mantle sources in the TLIP. The earlier episode was formed in response to the impact of a sub-lithospheric mantle plume at the base of the SCLM. Partial melting of the metasomatized lithospheric mantle was trigg… Show more

“…The Permian basalts crop out largely in the western part of the Tarim Basin, including Keping and Xiahenan in western Tarim (Chen et al, 1997;Jiang et al, 2006;Li et al, 2011;Wei et al, 2014;Yu et al, 2011b;Zhou et al, 2009) and Qipan and Damusi sections in SW Tarim (Li et al, 2013;Yang et al, 2006a). Most studies have been carried on the Keping basalts, where the complete Permian basalt successions occur in Yingan, Kaipaizileike and Sishichang.…”

“…280 Ma) igneous rocks with predominantly ultramafic-mafic rocks are widespread in the Tarim Craton and the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB) (e.g., Li et al, 2011;Wei et al, 2014;Xia et al, 2012;Xu et al, 2013;Yang et al, 2007Yang et al, , 2013Zhang et al, 2010;Zhou et al, 2004Zhou et al, , 2009, and correspond to the Tarim LIP (e.g., Qin et al, 2011;Su et al, 2011Su et al, , 2012. Recent dating of rocks on the Alxa Block, adjacent to the Tarim Craton and the CAOB, reveals that a large area of Early Permian (ca.…”
