Pms30 Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Prevalence in the Us: A Novel Incidence-Based Modeling Approach Using System Dynamics

Abstract: Objectives: To estimate the diagnosed incidence and prevalence of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) in the US. Methods: Diagnosed incidence of DMD was estimated for the US via a system dynamics model based on a triangular distribution of incidence rates identified from a systematic review of the available literature. Diagnosed prevalent cases of DMD were calculated using an incidence to prevalence model and age-specific Kaplan-Meier survival data stratified by birth cohort to account for improvements in treatm… Show more

“…Given the mutation specific nature of DMD studies on new therapies and drugs that are being used in other countries around the world, the results may not be fully relevant for the Pakistani population due to variations in our mutational profile and prevalence. 2,[27][28][29] It is important to generate patient-specific DMD iPSCs for our population for future use in diseasemodelling, drug testing, and regenerative therapy. 5,10 Thus, the first objective of this research was to isolate UDCs from urine of Pakistani DMD patients and the second was to characterize them.…”

“…One of the most severe forms of muscular dystrophy is Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) affecting 1:3,500 to 1:5,000 boys [8][9][10][11]. Affected individuals experience a progressive disease, in which loss of muscle mass and, consequently function, occurs over a period of many years CONTACT Cristina Al-Khalili Szigyarto caks@kth.se Science for Life Laboratory, KTH -Royal Institute of Technology, Solna, Sweden with, fatal outcome [12,13].…”
