Abstract:<p>Polar Mesospheric Summer Echoes (PMSE) are regions of enhanced radar backscatter at 80 to 90 km that are assumed to form in the presence of neutral air turbulence and charged ice particles as a result of spatial variations in the electron density. Changes in the electron temperature, as can be generated by the EISCAT heater, influence the electron diffusivity as well as the charging of the ice particles and both are parameters that influence the radar scattering. In many cases, an overshoot ef… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
