Pollutant Emissions and Combustion Efficiency Assessment of Engines Using Biodiesel

Abstract: This paper evaluates the biodiesel produced by a biodiesel plant located in the Mexican Centre for Cleaner Production (CMP + L by its acronym in Spanish) of the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico. Pollutant emissions from two types of engines were studied: a low power monocylinder engine and a 30-kW electric generator diesel engine. The tests were performed with the following blends: B5, B10, B15, B20, B30, B40, and B50. Parameters such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, hydrocarbons, and combustion eff… Show more

“…Nevertheless, we cannot exclude a possible effect of the higher FAME content and the higher density in the 2019 ILCE on NO x and CO 2 [29][30][31]. Measurable differences have been reported between no, 5%, or 10% biodiesel content in the fuel [32], or even between 2% and 4% for NO x [33].…”

“…The results of other studies on combustion simulations using diesel and biofuels showed a reduction in pollutant gases, with a 23% reduction in H 2 O, 13% in CO 2 , 21% in O 2 , and 21% in N 2 compared with commercial diesel [ 48 ]. This demonstrates the reduction in gases when using biodiesel in combustion [ 49 ].…”

“…Several works are available in the literature on the use of biodiesel in compression ignition (CI) engines for applications in the automotive field and small power generation [5,[20][21][22]. Figure 1 highlights that the number of scientific publications has been growing at a high rate for the last 10 years.…”
