Poly(methyl methacrylate) copolymers containing pendant carbazole and oxadiazole moieties for applications in single‐layer organic light emitting devices

Abstract: Methyl methacrylate derived monomers functionalized with pendant carbazole and oxadiazole moieties were synthesized and could be copolymerized to form a random copolymer. The glass transition temperature of the copolymers could be predicted with a Fox equation and ranged from 140 to 191 °C. The photoluminescent characteristics of the copolymers, both in solution and in solid films, exhibited emission that was a combination of sharp and broad peaks, suggestive of monomeric and chromophore aggregation emission. … Show more

“…Side-chain conjugated polymers are promising candidates to fulfill the above mentioned criteria and have been previously successfully investigated as host materials in organic LEDs. [30][31][32][33][34] Herein, we report the synthesis of three side chain conjugated polymers which are intended for use in the active layers of hybrid polymer/QD LEDs. The three polymers are com-prised of a polystyrene backbone, carbazole-based electroactive side chains and a disulfide end group.…”

“…; (2)] via the reaction of tetrazoles with aromatic acid chlorides. Figure presents a schematic of the route employed to synthesize the oxadiazole bearing monomers mPND, mNPD, and mNND, while MAK and MAO have been described previously . Finally, to obtain polymerizable oxadiazole structures, methoxy groups were cleaved with concentrated hydroiodic acid and subsequently acylated with methacryloyl chloride to yield final monomers [Fig.…”
