Abstract:Block copolymers of styrene and α‐methylstyrene were obtained by a cationic mechanism involving a single‐step addition in the m‐chloroperbenzoic acid/liquid sulfur dioxide system. This result was possible because of the difference in the reactivity of these monomers in the temperatures of −40°C, −60°C, and −78°C. Under these temperature conditions α‐methylstyrene is more reactive than styrene. The composition of the block copolymers was determined by NMR and TGA analysis in fractionated samples.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
