Polycarbazole-SEBS-crosslinked AEMs based on two spacer polymers for high-performance AEMWE

Kyungwhan Min,
Insu Jeong,
Hayoung Kim
et al.

Abstract: x-Car-SEBS, prepared by crosslinking two spacer-type polymers with flexible ion-conducting groups, were developed for anion exchange membrane water electrolysis. The membrane exhibits excellent ion conductivity, chemical stability, and water electrolysis cell performance of 1.25 mA cm−2 at 1.8 V.

“…Additionally, SEBS has been crosslinked with polyarylene to fabricate AEMs combining the high tensile stress of polyarylene with the high strain performance of SEBS, conferring not only enhanced physical and mechanical properties but also pronounced phase separation and chemical stability. 20,39,40…”

“…The polymer chains of AEMs will gradually disentangle over time due to the water absorption expansion, resulting in excessive deformation and a reduction in mechanical strength. , Cross-linking, as a favorable solution, can make the disentanglement of polymer chains more difficult, thus alleviating the physical failure. Lee et al prepared AEMs with high dimensional stability by thermal cross-linking, while relatively low conductivity limited the performance of the electrochemical properties . Chen and co-workers designed the in-situ styrene cross-linking membranes to significantly improve the mechanical strength of AEMs.…”
