Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) Decontamination Kinetics in Lactating Goats (Capra hircus) Following a Contaminated Corn Silage Exposure

Abstract: This study aimed to determine the kinetics of contamination and decontamination of PCBs and PCDD/Fs in milk of lactating goats. Four goats were fed during 39 days with corn silage collected in an area accidentally contaminated and then with uncontaminated silage during 20 days. Concentrations of DL-PCBs + PCDD/Fs in milk exceeded rapidly (<15 days) the European limit value and approached steady state after 5 weeks. The decontamination kinetics in milk included first a rapid elimination phase (<10 days) followe… Show more

“…The ovary is a dynamic organ during the reproductive cycle (Peng et al., ; Sharma, Singh, Bhardwaj, & Saini, ; Souza‐Fabjan et al., ), and the regulation of ovarian function is a complex process, which is tightly regulated and controlled by a multitude of genes and endocrine hormones (Fournier et al., ; Ganguly, Meur, & Ganguly, ; Garcia, Masot, Franco, Gazquez, & Redondo, ; Ranjan et al., ). Ovary plays an important role in the reproductive cycle of Capra hircus, and it is regulated by a variety of reproductive hormones and a large of genes complexly.…”

“…The average litter size of multiparous ewes is 2.72. The ovary is a dynamic organ that undergoes structural changes during the mammal reproductive cycle [ 7 9 ], which is tightly regulated by a multitude of genes and various endocrine hormones [ 10 13 ]. The ovaries play an important role during reproductive processes.…”
