Polyethersulfone composite membrane blended with cellulose fibrils

Abstract: Polyethersulfone (PES) is a common material used for ultrafiltration (UF) membranes, which has good chemical resistance, high mechanical properties, and wide temperature tolerances. The hydrophobic property of the PES membrane seriously limits its application. Cellulose fibrils are composed of micro-sized and nano-sized elements, which have high hydrophilicity, strength, and biodegradation. A composite membrane was prepared by the phase inversion induced by an immersion process. The characteristics of the comp… Show more

“…With an augmentation in V 2 CT x nanosheets loading from 0 to 1 wt %, the surface roughness of the membranes increased, and it was ascribed to the hydrophilic nature of V 2 CT x nanosheets. During the demixing process, the hydrophilic V 2 CT x nanosheets migrate to the aqueous phase interface, resulting in a rough surface topography . However, the surface roughness of VPM-3 was less compared to that of VPM-2 due to the partial agglomeration of nanosheets at higher concentrations.…”

“…This approach can be employed in membrane testing processes. There are similar studies on the mechanical properties of membranes under wet and dry conditions. Based on previous research, it is possible to state that the stiffer tubular structures like HNT contribute to the mechanical stiffness and strength significantly. ,, …”
