Polyethylene/Ethylene Vinyl Acetate and Ethylene Octene Copolymer/Clay Nanocomposite Films: Different Processing Conditions and Their Effect on Properties

Abstract: Polymer nanocomposites based on a layered clay used as nanofiller and copolymers ethylene and vinyl acetate matrix (EVA, the content of vinyl acetate (VA) component 19 wt% and 5 wt%) and ethylene octene copolymer (EOC, 17% and 45% of octene) were prepared. KO Buss kneader and double screw extruder were used. The MMT Na+ and four types of commercial products such as Nanofil N5 and N3000, Cloisite 93A and 30B were used as nanofillers—5 wt% in relation to the content of montmorillonite. The aim was to evaluate th… Show more

“…Among them, the use of a mixture of polymers has been explored. According to Dagmar, Alice, and Alena [ 5 ] the development of hybrid hydrogels can present better mechanical properties, stability, biodegradability, and control of the swelling capacity. Besides, hydrogels sensitive to changes in pH and temperature can be produced.…”

“…To reduce the problems with the compatibility of PE, PP, and MMT, a new strategy is investigated. The non-polar polymer could be incorporated polar part of the polymer chain to gain better intercalation and exfoliation of layered clays in polymer [146,147]. Finally, it could be concluded that polar systems are studied more intensively compared to non-polar polymers.…”

“…One example are polymer nanocomposites, where fillers (nanoclays and graphene) are added to improve barrier properties to gases, important in packaging, goods preservation, or electronic devices. [1][2][3][4][5] Functional graded materials are another example where holes in specific positions are used to control heat transfer in ceramicbased materials or isolation properties in polymer-based foams.…”
