Polyketones: Synthesis and Applications

Abstract: Polyketones, also known as aliphatic polyketone, are a relatively new class of polymers obtained by the perfectly alternating copolymerization or terpolymerization of α-olefins with carbon monoxide. The polymerization is well catalyzed by Pd(II) complexes; the activity of which strongly depends by the nature of the ligand, promoting agents, and solvent used. Owing to their excellent mechanical properties, thermoplastic polyketones have found diverse industrial applications ranging from fibers, fire-retardant m… Show more

“…This step is the hydrogen source in a CO 2 utilization-storage process. In any case, the formation of a large excess of CO suggests its possible employment in other production where CO is largely utilized such as in production of polymer such as polyketone whose practical employment may contribute to diminish the overall CO 2 emission (Hyosung start a 50 000 ton/y plant in 2015) [27]. Another significant point is the magnetic properties of the catalysts, which will result, especially in the hydrogen transfer reaction, in a simplification of the catalysts separation process.…”

“…OH-grafted and alkyl-grafted polyketones were also incorporated into the formulations to tune the mechanical properties of the products. Polyketones were used due to their versatility and straightforward chemical modification with amine-substituted compounds by the Paal-Knorr reaction which is safe and eco-friendly to work with. ,, Through this approach, we obtained polymer composites that show efficient SHE and SME induced by electricity as well as shape reprogrammability, reprocessability, and tunable properties.…”

“…From biological synthesis to industrial use, aliphatic polyketones are widely used as structurally flexible and synthetically versatile components. [1][2][3] Their reactivity drastically changes depending on the sequence of carbonyl groups and other substituents on flexible hydrocarbon chains. For example, natural type polyketones with a repeating 1,3-diketone sequence tend to undergo intramolecular cyclization to form six-membered rings.…”
