Polymer-Derived SiOC Integrated with a Graphene Aerogel As a Highly Stable Li-Ion Battery Anode

Abstract: Amorphous polymer-derived silicon oxycarbide (SiOC) is an attractive candidate for Li-ion battery anodes, as an alternative to graphite, which is limited to a theoretical capacity of 372 mAh/g. However, SiOC tends to exhibit poor transport properties and cycling performance as the result of sparsely distributed carbon clusters and inefficient active sites. To overcome these limitations, we designed and fabricated a layered graphene/SiOC heterostructure by solvent assisted infiltration of a polymeric precursor … Show more

“…[173] Aerogels, which can be produced by supercritical, freeze, or ambient pressure drying of gels, are believed to have a promising future in air filtration due to their high porosity, surface area, and adjustable surface chemistry. [174][175][176][177] For example, combining a classical sol-gel process with freeze drying allows for the synthesis of plant-based composite aerogel air filters from konjac fibers and wheat straw. [178] Similarly, nanocellulose aerogels as high-performance air filters were fabricated by freeze drying of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl-oxidized cellulose nanofibril dispersions in water/tert-butyl alcohol mixtures.…”

“…As shown in Fig. 8 a and b, the plotted C 1s XPS data can be deconvoluted into three peaks corresponding to C–C (284.8 eV), C–O–C or C–OH (286.5 eV), and O–C=O (288.5 eV) [ 31 ]. The intensities of C–O–C/C–OH and O–C=O peaks are significantly decreased compared to that of C–C peak after CaCl 2 treatment, suggesting the successful cross-linkage of alginate molecules with Ca 2+ ions through the carboxyl and hydroxyl groups [ 32 , 33 ].…”

“…Lithium ion battery has become an indispensable energy storage system [1][2]. However, the capacity of commercial anode materials is close to its theoretical limit (372mAh/g) [3][4], so it is difficult to make a big breakthrough in recent years.…”
