“…The asymmetric unit contains one [CdCl 4 ] 2– anion and two 3‐cyanomethyl‐1‐methylimidazolium ([CMMIM] + ) cations. The Cd–Cl distances in the CdCl 4 tetrahedron range from 2.428(2) to 2.483(2) Å, and the Cl–Cd–Cl angles range from 103.13(6) to 114.29(6)° (see Table 1), which are all comparable to those found in other CdCl 4 ‐containing compounds 1819. No interaction of the cyano group with the cadmium cation is found, as the chloride anion is the stronger Lewis base.…”

“…The Tab-Tab dication has positive charges located on the NMe 3 groups. The torsion angle about the SÐS bond [C1Ð S1ÐS2ÐC10] is 92.1 (3) , which is larger than those reported in Cargill Thompson et al, 1997], [C 5 H 9 NH(CH 3 )S] 2 CuCl 4 (90 ; Brianso  et al, 1981) and [{(CH 3 ) 2 HN(CH 2 ) 3 } 2 ][CdBr 4 ] (75.4 ; Casals et al, 1987). The SÐS bond length is 2.030 (3) A Ê , which is comparable with those observed in [C 5 H 9 NH(CH 3 )S] 2 CuCl 4 [2.02 (2) A Ê ; Brianso  et al, 1981] The Tab-Tab dications in the crystal of (I) are arranged parallel to each other along the a axis, and the HgI 4 dianions are positioned between the cations.…”

“…In the present case, the formation of the Tab-Tab dication may be due to the oxidation of Tab via oxygen in the presence of Hg 2+ . It was of interest to determine the structure of the title compound, as there are a limited number of documented metal±organic disul®de salts (Brianso  et al, 1981;Casals et al, 1987). Here, we report the crystal structure of the title compound, (I).…”
