Polymerization-based signal amplification for paper-based immunoassays

Abstract: Diagnostic tests in resource-limited settings require technologies that are affordable and easy to use with minimal infrastructure. Colorimetric detection methods that produce results that are readable by eye, without reliance on specialized and expensive equipment, have great utility in these settings. We report a colorimetric method that integrates a paper-based immunoassay with a rapid, visible-light-induced polymerization to provide high visual contrast between a positive and a negative result. Using Plasm… Show more

“…LOD was defined as the minimum concentration that yielded an average test area intensity that was exceeded by 3 times the standard deviation of a blank (sample without antigen) over the average intensity of the blank 26 . Molarity of LOD was determined using a molecular weight of 50 kD for Dengue NS1 27 .…”

“…The maximum frequency at which a difference between the control and HIV samples was observed was 1 KHz with streptavidin while the chips without streptavidin only had a maximum frequency for separation of 500 Hz. The performance and sensitivity of the paper chips can further be enhanced by optimizing the surface chemistry of the chips using chemical immobilisation of the antibodies as shown by others [17,18]. …”

“…For instance, regular commercial papers have been used to fabricate immunoassay analyzer, microfluidic devices and paper-based electronics [29][30][31]. In this research, we developed a paper-based electrodeposition chip for the gel generation.…”
