Abstract: Polyhomologation, recently developed by Shea, is a borane-initiated living polymerization of ylides leading to linear polymethylenes (C1 polymerization) with controlled molecular weight, low polydispersity, and well-defined structures. Για να ξεπεραστούν οι περιορισμοί που αναφέρθηκαν, έχουν αναπτυχθεί τεχνικές που επιτρέπουν, με πολύ απλά βήματα, την μετατροπή από το ένα είδος πολυμερισμού στο άλλο.Με αυτόν τον τρόπο, δισυσταδικό συμπολυμερές το οποίο έχει συντεθεί με ανιοντικό πολυμερισμό και φέρει ακραίες υδρόξυλο-ομάδες, μπορεί να μετατραπεί, με ήπιες συνθήκες, σε μακροαπαρχητή για τον ριζικό πολυμερισμό τρίτου μονομερούς, μετά την κατάλληλη χημική τροποποίηση του με αντιδραστήριο που φέρει άτομα -Br ή -Cl 105.
