Polymorphisms of bGH, RORC, and DGAT1 genes in Russian beef cattle breeds

Abstract: We examined the allelic and genotypic polymorphisms of genes of the retinoic acid receptor related orphan receptor C (RORC), diacylglycerol acyltransferase 1 (DGAT1), and growth hormone (bGH) in Russian beef cattle breeds in two populations of Kazakh white headed cattle (of Kazakh and Russian selec tion) and the Kalmyk cattle breed, as well as in the Mongolian hogorogo breed, which is related to Kalmyk breed. The studied genes are associated with parameters of meat quality: marbleness (bGH and RORC) and tender… Show more

“…The significance of differences between the indices was determined using the criteria of nonparametric statistics for the linked populations (differences with P>0.95 were considered significant: aP>0.999; bP>0.99; cP>0.95; ns = not significant at P<0.95). Student's t-test was applied for the statistical analysis ( Johnson and Bhattacharyya, 2010). The mean of a set of measurements was calculated according to the formula:…”

“…Carcass traits are alongside fattening performance one of the most important traits in beef industry. It is generally accepted that the beef production is very complex and time-consuming field of the livestock industry (Gorlov et al, 2014;Ardicli et al, 2017). The majority part of traits associated with carcass quality and meat yield is under the control of polygenic inheritance.…”

“…AY065621) encodes a microbial enzyme catalysing the last step of the synthesis of triglycerides (Ardicli et al, 2017). During the metabolism of fatty acid, the DGAT1 participates in the conversation of carbohydrates into fat and their storage in the fat depot (Gorlov et al, 2014). In cattle, the DGAT1 gene is localized in the area of centromere of chromosome BTA14.…”
