“…Exposing similar trends in the stability of POV clusters, Rompel and coworkers have reported on the stability of plenary POV motifs. 79 This work has bolstered support for the observation that pH has a strong effect on cluster stability, and dictates the size and shape of POV assemblies At pH > 7, [V 10 O 28 ] 6is converted to lower-order assemblies; first, conversion to the tetrameric vanadium oxide cluster is observed [V 4 O 13 ] 6-(pH ⁓ 8 -10), which progresses to the dimeric [V 2 O 7 ] 4-(pH ⁓ 10.5 -12.5) and monomeric [VO 4 ] 3-(pH ⁓ 13 -14) species. It is worth noting that the conversion to the decavanadate ion to lower-order POVs is dependent also on vanadium concentration, temperature and ionic strength.…”

“…POMs inhibit a number of biological processes, such as β-amyloid aggregation 9 or the activity of P-type ATPase, 10 and can even act as artificial enzymes. 11 In order to contribute to the understanding of the role POMs play in biological systems, a multi- and interdisciplinary approach is required because POMs, like other inorganic coordination compounds, are flexible and reactive molecules, and their identity and integrity are highly dependent on the reaction conditions, such as the pH value, the type of buffer used, and influences from other components in the medium, 12 to name just a few. The inclusion and evaluation of the biological activity of POMs requires in-depth inorganic, biochemical, and biological knowledge.…”

“…Polyoxometalates (POMs) are an important and diverse class of nanoscale molecular metal oxides, which are characterised by a wide and versatile range of physicochemical properties that can be tuned on the molecular level [17]. Their redox properties and high oxidation activity also make them useful to a wide variety of applications, from catalysis [18] to medicine [19].…”
