Abstract: Background Neoplastic subpopulations can include polyploid cells that can be involved in tumor evolution and recurrence. Their origin can be traced back to the tumor microenvironment or chemotherapeutic treatment, which can alter cell division or favor cell fusion, generating multinucleated cells.
