Most accidents in the aviation, maritime, and construction industries are caused by human error, which can be traced back to impaired mental performance and attention failure. In 1596, Du Laurens, a French anatomist and medical scientist, said that the eyes are the windows of the mind. Eye tracking research dates back almost 150 years and it has been widely used in different fields for several purposes. Overall, eye tracking technologies provide the means to capture in real time a variety of eye movements that reflect different human cognitive, emotional, and physiological states, which can be used to gain a wider understanding of the human mind in different scenarios. This systematic literature review explored the different applications of eye tracking research in three high-risk industries, namely aviation, maritime, and construction. The results of this research uncovered the demographic distribution and applications of eye tracking research, as well as the different technologies that have been integrated to study the visual, cognitive, and attentional aspects of human mental performance. Moreover, different research gaps and potential future research directions were highlighted in relation to the usage of additional technologies to support, validate, and enhance eye tracking research to better understand human mental performance.

<div>The interface pressure distribution is an important indicator for evaluating the static comfort of the seat. At present, the interface pressure of a real person is acquired through testing and used in assessing the seat comfort, which has poor consistency and accuracy, and it is difficult to combine the test results of different persons to make an objective evaluation. The idea is presented to evaluate the seat static comfort by the objective interface pressure. The H-point machine (HPM) is the standard loading device which can be used to acquire the objective interface pressure. The test criterion was made, and the measurement consistency of the standard loading device passed the experimental verification. As a case study, five seats were selected to obtain the subjective rating of static comfort and the objective interface pressure data. Based on these data, the evaluation model of seat static comfort was established. The above standard loading device, the objective interface pressure test criteria, and the seat static comfort evaluation model form a comprehensive system for assessing seat static comfort. By using the system in evaluating and optimizing the studied seat and by the afterward validation, the method of evaluating the seat static comfort by the objective interface pressure illustrated reliable and accurate performance, which is easy to use and showed the good value of engineering application.</div>

<div>The comfort of seats increasingly becomes a crucial factor in the overall driving experience, particularly as vehicles become increasingly integrated into people’s daily lives. Passengers often maintain a relatively fixed posture and have close contact with the seat for extended periods of time, leading to issues such as heat, humidity, and stickiness. In order to enhance the thermal comfort experienced by occupants, manufacturers are no longer satisfied with ensuring the thermal comfort performance of vehicles only through the HVAC system in the cabin, but also developed a microclimate control seat that adjusts the temperature through ventilation between the contact surface of the seat and the human body, trying to improve the thermal comfort of passengers more effectively. However, the ventilation ducts of these seats are commonly designed based on empirical or autonomous standards, and their effectiveness is subsequently assessed through test or simulation, typically under unloaded conditions. This approach fails to account for the impact of seat deformation on ventilation performance during actual use, resulting in a discrepancy between the intended design and the actual experience. This research aims to address this issue by using simulation methods to compare the deformation of ventilation ducts and their impact on ventilation performance in both unloaded and loaded seats. The findings reveal significant differences between the two conditions, highlighting the importance of considering seat deformation in the design of more precise microclimate control. Meanwhile, a simple simulation scheme was proposed for performance testing of seat ventilation.</div>
