Pontibacter mucosus sp. nov., isolated from hexachlorocyclohexane-contaminated pond sediment

Abstract: A halotolerant, Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped and light-pink-pigmented bacterial strain, PB3 T , was isolated from a pond sediment near a hexachlorocyclohexane-producing factory, located at Chinhat, Lucknow, India. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain PB3T formed a distinct phyletic clade along with the members of the genusPontibacter. The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with other members of the genus Pontibacter ranged from 94.5 to 98.9 %. The cells were motile, aerob… Show more

“…At the time of writing, the genus comprised 34 species with validly published names (www.bacterio.net/pontibacter.html). Those species were mainly isolated from soil environments, some of which were from hexachlorocyclohexane-contaminated environments [3–9], and some were from marine environments [1, 10–13]. In this paper, we present the results of the taxonomic study of a novel Pontibacter strain isolated from a mangrove sediment sample in Hainan, PR China.…”

“…As of May 2023, the genus Pontibacter comprised 42 validly published species (www.bacterio.net/genus/Pontibacter) [2]. Members of the genus Pontibacter are characterized as Gram-negative, rod-shaped, catalase-positive (except for Pontibacter qinzhouensis [3]), MK-7 as the predominant menaquinone, with very high amounts of iso-C 15 : 0 (except for Pontibacter aydingkolensis , Pontibacter beigongshangensis , Pontibacter deserti , Pontibacter niistensis and Pontibacter ummariensis [4–8]) and summed feature 4 (iso-C 17 : 1 I and/or anteiso-C 17 : 1 B), and a DNA G+C content range of 43.9–58.6 mol% [1, 3–39]. During investigation of the microbial diversity of the pit mud of the Chinese liquor, two novel strains (NBU2971 T and NBU2972 T ) were isolated.…”
