Porphyrin–Alkaline Earth MOFs with the Highest Adsorption Capacity for Methylene Blue

Abstract: A series of four porphyrin-alkaline earth metal- organic frameworks [Mg(HDCPP)2 (DMF)2 ]n ⋅(H2 O)7 n (1), [Ca(HDCPP)2 (H2 O)2 ]n (DMF)1.5 n (2), [Sr(DCPP)(H2 O)(DMA)]n (3), and [Ba(DCPP)(H2 O)(DMA)]n (4) was isolated for the first time from solvothermal reaction between metal-free 5,15-di(4- carboxyphenyl)porphyrin (H2 DCPP) and alkaline earth ions. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals the 2D and 3D supramolecular network with periodic nanosized porosity for 1/2 and 3/4, respectively. The whole se… Show more

“…26 The PCN-222 tested in this work contains free base porphyrins only. Motivated by the fact that a porphyrin-containing MOF, called compound 2, exhibits good adsorption capacity for methylene blue (MB), 27 we tested the dye adsorption/removal ability of PCN-222 in this study.…”

“…There are only a few mentions in the literature concerning the capacity of porphyrin-hybrid materials to adsorb dyes. Recent work focused on the obtaining of a porous organic polymer, generated from 5,10,15,20-tetra-(1,1 -biphenyl) porphyrin, capable to adsorb 17.9 mg MB/g [26], but their anterior results using alkaline metal organic frameworks containing Ca(II)-5,15-di(4-carboxyphenyl)-porphyrin have the best ever reported performance, with an adsorption capacity of 952 mg MB/g [27].…”

“…[20][21][22] On the other hand, their low density and toxicity,a nd high stability to water and air,a sw ell as relatively low cost, attract many researchers to explore their potentiala pplicationsa sf unctional materials. [21,[23][24][25] It is worth investigating the step-by-steps tructural transformationo ff inal crystal compounds containing alkaline earth metal ions to meet the need of their controllable synthesis.…”
