Postpartum endogenous Candida endophthalmitis

Abstract: Postpartum endogenous fungal endophthalmitis in otherwise healthy females is extremely rare disease. We report a case of a 25-year-old female patient referred with a history of decreased vision in her right eye 1 month after uncomplicated vaginal delivery. She presented with multifocal chorioretinal infiltrates. The patient showed persistent inflammation in her right eye then after. Our patient had a mastitis following pregnancy similarly to another case described in literature [ 20 ] and achieved a 20/20 vision during the follow-up, in agreement with other patients who obtained an overall favorable visual prognosis [ 11 13 , 15 , 16 , 18 , 19 ]. Risk factors for the development of a mastitis include nipple excoriation, maternal stress, malnutrition or chronic medical conditions, nipple piercings, smoking, a tight bra, or an improper technique while breastfeeding.…”
