Potassium (K) is essential nutrient to the physiological and biochemical activities of plants, acting in the cation-anion balance, water movement, osmoregulation, and transference of energy. This study aimed to evaluate the yield response of the zucchini squash cultivar 'Caserta' to different doses and sources of potassium. The experiment was carried out under field conditions in a complete randomized block experimental design in a 6 x 2 factorial scheme, with six K2O doses (0, 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 kg ha-1) and two sources (chloride and potassium sulfate), with four replications. The fruit mass, fruit length, number of fruits per plant, total and marketable fruit yields were evaluated. The results showed that the sulfate and potassium chloride sources promoted the maximum length and number of fruits per plant. K2O fertilization in the form of potassium sulfate promoted higher mass and total fruit yield. The doses of 108.41 and 130.78 kg ha-1 of K2O in the chloride and potassium sulfate sources provided the maximum marketable yield of fruits, with 22.84 and 27.0 t ha-1, respectively. Regardless of the source, potassium fertilization must be provided to increase the production parameters of the zucchini squash 'Caserta' cultivar.

Coffee Dryer With Dehydrated Air: A Technical and Economic Viability Analysis

The defects that drying in concrete yards impose on coffee beans and the search for gourmet coffee production have prompted the emergence of new drying technologies. This work verified the technical and economic feasibility of drying coffee with dehumidified air with a refrigerating capacity of 422,908.7 J s -1 , compatible with static capacity dryers equal to 75 m 3 . Considering the sale price of coffee, the cost of electric energy acquisition, the monthly interest rate and maintenance time, expenses that are equivalent to the depreciation of the concrete yard, a central compound rotational design was considered with 28 tests for the feasibility analysis, including the internal rate of return, net present value and the return on investment. The results showed that in the electric drying units, the dried coffee presents fewer broken and defective beans and has higher retention in a N o . 17 sieve. With a higher beverage quality and a price 12.11% higher, drying with dehydrated air showed a PBD of 2.27 years and a return of US$ 2.49 million. The optimisation results were 98.98% desirable. It was concluded that it is economically feasible to dry coffee with dehydrated air and without using a concrete yard.

The availability of fresh water and energy resources in remote locations is a major challenge for agricultural crop production in many countries in the Middle East region. Using limited water resources efficiently is crucial to sustain rapidly population growth. This research aimed to investigate the possibility of enhancing productivity and water productivity of squash crop through deficit irrigation technique. Two field studies were carried out to investigate the response of squash crop to deficit irrigation (DI) technique and potassium fertilization (K) over the spring and fall seasons of 2018. The irrigation treatments were based on the reference evapotranspiration (ETo). The results showed that the optimum squash seed yield could be obtained with K fertilizer level of 250 kg K 2 O ha -1 and irrigation with amount of water equals 75% of ETo using DI with laterals placed at 0.15m from crop row or 50% of ETo in the last stage using RDI techniques. Fully irrigated (1.0 ETo) treatments had the highest values of yield and yield components of squash and there were no significant differences with RDI and DI with 0.75 ETo. The application of RDI can save more than 20% of applied water with no significant reductions in squash yield. Potassium rates enhanced squash yield and water productivity with the greatest value at 250 kg K 2 O 5 ha -1 .
