Potato Yield and Phosphorus Use Efficiency of Two New Potato Cultivars in New Brunswick, Canada

Abstract: This 2-yr (2013 and 2014) study evaluated the variation in tuber yield and selected indices of phosphorus (P) use efficiency of two new potato cultivars [AAC Alta Cloud (AC) and AAC Alta Strong (AS)] versus Russet Burbank (RB), the french fry industry standard. Initial P levels and P saturation index [(P/Al) × 100] ranged from 85 to 89.5 mg P kg −1 and from 4.6% to 5.6%, respectively. A complete randomized block design for each variety was laid out in three adjacent plots with six P fertilization rates. The av… Show more

“…Fernandes and Soratto 2016ab;Sattelmacher et al 1990). However, genetic variation in yield loss upon reduction of P-fertiliser input was observed (Table 2), which is consistent with studies suggesting that potato genotypes can differ in their yield response to P availability (Daoui et al 2014;Fernandes and Soratto 2016a;Freeman et al 1998;Hailu et al 2017;Jenkins and Ali 1999;Manorama et al 2017;Nyiraneza et al 2017;Sandaña 2016;Sandaña and Kalazich 2015;Soratto and Fernandes 2016;Thornton et al 2014;Trehan and Singh 2013).…”

“…There is limited information on genetic variation in PUE, PUpE or PUtE among commercial potato germplasm (Fernandes and Soratto 2016ab;Hailu et al 2017;Nyiraneza et al 2017;Sandaña 2016;Trehan and Singh 2013). However, variation has been observed among genotypes of European potato (S.…”

“…The maximum of P absorption by plant root and photosynthate use for growth and development of root increased TGR and plant height of red potato. This was caused by more phosphate solvent bacteria provided P for plant, the plant could stimulate root development and root formation so that the absorption availability increased [35].…”
