Potential Applications of Silicate Solubilizing Bacteria and Potassium Silicate on Sugarcane Crop under Drought Condition

Abstract: The decline of soil nutrient status and productivity of crops, and restoration of soil health is a key global concern. Crop yields are reduced by soil degradation, which endangers the world's food supply. Crop yields and soil health are further decreased by improper fertilizers use in conjunction with intense cropping. A wide variety of plants, particularly monocotyledonous crops can collect significant levels of silicon in their organs showing the benefits of silicon in terms of growth, biomass, and yield, wh… Show more

“…K-Si may be able to lessen the effects of drought stress on photosynthetic pigments by naturally producing more cytokinin, which restores chlorophyll synthesis and enhances chloroplast ultrastructure [5]. In addition, it could be the consequence of foliar spray of K 2 SiO 3 (0.5%) increased the nutrients in plants that promote photosynthesis and yield of Sugarcane ratoon crop under the drought condition according to [44]. Reduced Pn, Tr, gs, and RWC of leaves in cotton plants under were observed in response to drought stress (Fig.…”

“…The nature of neem products possesses antimicrobial effectiveness especially higher antibacterial activity capacity [46,47]. Similarly, the potent antibacterial effect of silicon components for gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial pathogens [48] by creating oxidative injury to its membrane led to bacterial dead [49,50,51]. These speci c characteristics of neem products and SMS component helps to reduce the spoilage of sugarcane quality parameters during an extended period of staling for milling and provided higher commercial cane sugars recovery compared to all other treatments.…”
