Potential of Trichoderma spp. and Pinus sylvestris Bark Extracts as Biocontrol Agents against Fungal Pathogens Residing in the Botryosphaeriales

Abstract: The Botryosphaeriales represents a diverse order of fungal pathogens of various woody plant species. In Serbia, these fungi are important pathogens of forest, ornamental and fruit trees causing die-back, cankers, leaf blights, fruit, and root rot. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antifungal activity of Pinus sylvestris bark extracts and Trichoderma spp. against Botryosphaeria dothidea, Dothiorella sarmentorum and Neofusicoccum parvum (Ascomycota: Botryosphaeriales) isolated from Picea abies, Thuja occ… Show more

“…Practical management options for B. dothidea and other members of the Botryosphaeriaceae family are limited. Biological control methods against the disease caused by these fungi are being developed, but Botryosphaeriaceae invade xylem vessels thus making the application of pesticides or biological control products difficult or even inefficient (Aćimović et al 2019;Karličić et al 2020).…”

“…Pinus sylvestris bark extracts were prepared, and extraction yields calculated as described in Karličić et al [22]. The water extracts were obtained at two temperatures (80 and 120 • C) and pH regimes (7 and 9) in three repetitions.…”

“…The water extracts were obtained at two temperatures (80 and 120 • C) and pH regimes (7 and 9) in three repetitions. The extraction yields represented a percentage of soluble bark powder and were 4% for extracts prepared at 80 • C and 5% for extracts prepared at 120 • C [22].…”
