Pottery, Roman Empire

Abstract: It is hard to conceive of a household in the Roman Empire that could make do without pottery – for the storing of foodstuffs, the cooking and serving of meals, the drinking of beverages, and so on. Artifacts of glass, metal, and, occasionally, other materials were used for similar purposes, and some of them were more prestigious than their ceramic counterparts, but the consumer's choice was guided by more than one factor, and these included the price.
