“…Our study shows that acute intraperitoneal posttreatment with PPX reverted formalin‐induced long‐lasting secondary mechanical allodynia and hyperalgesia on Day 6 after formalin injection. In support of our results, acute and subacute (4 days) subcutaneous treatment with PPX decreased complete Freund's adjuvant‐induced mechanical hyperalgesia in a model of inflammatory pain (Edwards et al, 2022). Likewise, acute and subacute (10 days) systemic posttreatment with PPX reverted thermal and mechanical allodynia (Cao et al, 2016; Romero‐Sánchez et al, 2020) and hyperalgesia in rats with Parkinson's disease (Romero‐Sánchez et al, 2020).…”

“…PPX prevents the development of inflammation induced by carrageenan, formalin, and tissue plasminogen activator (TPA) (Sadeghi et al, 2017). In addition, studies have demonstrated that PPX inhibits thermal (Cao et al, 2016; Martins et al, 2022) and mechanical (Edwards et al, 2022; Romero‐Sánchez et al, 2020) nociception hypersensitivity in animals with Parkinson's disease, fibromyalgia, and inflammatory pain. This evidence suggests the potential usefulness of PPX as an antinociceptive agent.…”

“…DA regulates injury perception in various areas of the CNS, including the basal ganglia, thalamus, insular cortex, anterior cingulate cortex and periaqueductal gray (PAG). 59,60 The PAG is a brain region involved in the regulation of injury perception, and MOR is densely expressed in the PAG. [61][62][63] Given the central role of opioid receptors in mediating pain and their dense expression in the PAG, researchers investigated whether there is a link between them and dopamine in the regulation of pain and found that the ventral PAG/dorsal raphe dopamine neurons may play a key role in opioid anti-harm perception through the activation of downstream structures by dopamine and glutamate release.…”
