Práticas de sustentabilidade em terminais portuários no Brasil

Abstract

Environmental awareness is growing increasingly in society, involving changes of perception in different social actors. In this sense, the implementation of effective sustainable management is essential for decision-makers to continue to support port operations. Organizations are institutionalizing, to a greater or lesser extent, the values linked to sustainable development and sustainability policies. However, there is a gap in the literature to encourage a debate about the alignment between sustainable principles and practices discussed in theory and the organizational policies applied in practice. Based on a bibliographical review on sustainability practices, the objective of this work is to investigate which sustainability practices are being applied in port terminals in Brazil. The multiple case study aims to acquire the answers of five terminals, located in the three largest Brazilian ports, using terminal visits and semi-structured interviews, based on a consolidation of sustainability practices researched and studied in the academic literature in several articles published throughout the world of recent years. The results demonstrate that the area of action that uses sustainability practices most by the terminals is the area of integration. The other areas of practice have less implemented practices, but among these implemented practices, most are consolidated, unlike the area of integration that presented several practices in implementation and / or study. The main difficulties of implementation are the high costs and lack of support from the Port Authority to encourage the implementation of such practices. This work gains importance for investigating and presenting how sustainability practices are being applied in the Brazilian terminals, adding content for the continuity of studies related to the theme.
