Predicted UV-C Sensitivity of Human and Non-human Vertebrate (+) ssRNA Viruses

Abstract: Epidemic and pandemic infectious diseases caused by RNA viruses constitute a significant hazard to human and animal health. Disinfection is an essential aspect of infection prevention and control measures. In this study, we estimated UV-C sensitivity of 83 human and veterinary pathogenic (+) ssRNA viruses by developed pyrimidine dinucleotide frequency-based genomic model. The data showed that the avian infectious bronchitis virus (genus: γ-coronavirus) with an estimated D90 value of 17.8 J/m2 was highly UV sen… Show more

“…From the optical data (Table 2), it may be seen that the apple juice was a strong absorber (7.98 cm - 1 ) of UV-C light. On the contrary, some fluids have absorbance between value 0.1 to 22 (Patras et al, 2020; Pendyala et al, 2021; Vashisht et al, 2022). Figure 1 illustrates the ultraviolet (UV) Spectra of apple juice at 254, 263, and 279 nm wavelengths.…”

“…From the optical data (Table 2), it may be seen that the AJ was a strong absorber (7.98 cm −1 ) of UV‐C light. On the contrary, some beverages including coconut water, watermelon juice, and milk have absorbances between value 0.1 and 22 (Patras et al, 2020; Pendyala & Patras, 2021; Vashisht, Pendyala, Patras, Gopisetty, & Ravi, 2022). Figure 1 demonstrates a schematic diagram of collimated LED unit operating at 263 nm wavelength, with all functional parts included.…”
