The purpose of the current study is to explore the influence of young consumers’ religiosity on their attitude and intention towards digital piracy. Despite continuous efforts from the government and industries, global digital piracy is still on the rise with developing countries leading the way of the most pirated nations. Interestingly, religiosity is also highest in developing countries which is the focal aim of this study. Using a sample from Indonesia (n = 576), the largest Muslim population in the world, the present study found that religiosity significantly influences consumers’ attitude towards digital piracy, where consumers who are less religious are more receptive towards digital piracy. The results of this study will have important implications to religious leaders, software and music industry and public policymakers operating in developing countries.

Academic Dishonesty Among Accounting Students: Some Indonesian Evidence

Academic dishonesty among students has been recognised as a major concern in higher education in Indonesia. Accounting research arguably need to give more attention to this issue. This is partly because of the importance of integrity as part of accounting ethics and professionalism. However, little currently known about academic dishonesty among accounting students in Indonesia. We address this issue by surveying 342 accounting students about their perception of academic dishonesty and what motivates such behaviour. Our respondents were from all first, second or third year undergraduate students at one state university in Indonesia. Drawing from Theory of Planned Behaviour, we examine three individual variables-attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control. In addition, we also examine three situational variables-academic integrity culture, definitional ambiguity, and pressure. Six hypotheses were tested, using a Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling. The results reveal that 77.5% of respondents admitted committing academic dishonesty. While all individual factors studies have positive significant effect on the intention to commit academic dishonesty, of the three situational factors only pressure and definitional ambiguity have a positive significant effect. Surprisingly, it is found that academic integrity culture does not have a significant effect.

This research was aimed to analyze the factors affecting accounting students’ intention in carrying out e-book piracy. This research integrated the theory of reasoned action and ethics theory. This was quantitative research with a survey method. Data in this research were collected from respondents who filled in questionnaires. The respondents in this research were accounting students of Universities in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The data were analyzed using the Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) supported by SmartPLS 3.0 software. The results of the analysis showed that attitude, subjective norm, perceived benefit, and moral obligation significantly affected the intention of carrying out E-book piracy. Meanwhile, the perceived risk significantly affected the attitude toward piracy. Furthermore, this research discussed both theoretical and practical impacts based on the results of data analysis.
