In recent decades the toughness of welded structures becomes more and more important. This trend is particularly valid for the advanced high-strength steels (AHSS), which have reduced toughness comparing to the low-strength structural steels. Dynamic characteristics of the welded joints of the newly developed high-strength steel sheets required by the automotive industry have been neglected, with welding procedures being optimized on the static joint properties, mainly on the tensile-shear force. Up to the present time, testing of dynamic properties of the spot-welded joints has been performed by increased testing speed during tensile testing. The authors have developed a new dynamic testing method and designed new testing equipment for impact bending, which can give a numeric result to characterize the resistance of spot-welded joints against dynamic load. In this paper, this method will be used to evaluate resistance spot-welded joints made on DP600 and DP800 steels with three different technological parameters, comparing long-time welding, short-time welding, and two-pulse welding. The different parameters cause different weld nugget sizes, failure modes, impact energies, and force–time diagrams. All test results show that bigger weld nugget diameters cause better impact energies and impact forces, but the differences are not perfectly correlated.

This article provides information on the development of an adjustable spot welder implemented on the basis of the capacitor principle without a transformer. Also the scientific work considers the calculation of the energy of the capacitors for a spot welding apparatus using modern methods of numerical simulation and programming. The method of calculation is given, as well as a mathematical solution tool. The calculation results are compared with the experiment. Based on the data obtained, according to the results of calculations, work was carried out on a prototype, the result of which was an adjustable spot welder. It allows you to accurately and quickly weld nickel plates to lithium cells, creating full-fledged batteries from them, which are widely used in modern technology, including promising vehicles. The presence of sensors and a screen allows the operator to control the charging process and the direct operation of the unit, which simplifies the use of the device.

The lightweight construction of automotive car bodies is more and more important to reduce the fuel consumption and costs. It can be reached by use of high strength steels and aluminium alloy base materials. Recent car bodies contain both steel and aluminium alloys, therefore necessary to make reliable joints between them. Several joining methods were investigated like mechanical joining and welding. These joints typically were tested by quasi-static testing methods, rarely high cycle fatigue (HCF) test results can be found. The HCF loading basically determines the lifetime of these joints, so important to know the joint behaviour in this case. The resistance spot welding (RSW) is typically used for joining of car bodies and it is applicable for aluminium/steel hybrid joints too. During the welding very brittle intermetallic compound (IMC) formed which basically determines the joint properties, especially the IMC thickness and phases are influential. In this investigation 5754-H22 / DP600 and 6082-T6 / DP600 joints were made by RSW and HCF tests were performed. In case of HCF useful to compare the results of aluminium/aluminium and steel/steel joints too. Therefore, 5754-H22 / 5754-H22, 6082-T6 / 6082-T6 and DP600 / DP600 RSW joints were made and tested too. The joints were made by optimized RSW joining technologies and showed different behaviour during HCF loading. The failure modes showed differences, the shearing is occurred with a combination of base material fracture and plug failure mode also happens. After HCF tests the IMC thicknesses were measured in case of typical failure modes and show differences too. The resistance against HCF of hybrid joints are better than aluminium/aluminium joints and showed worse results compared with steel/steel joints.
