Prediction Model for Asphalt Pavement Temperature in High-Temperature Season in Beijing

Abstract: Asphalt pavement temperatures greatly influence on the bearing capacity and performance, especially in high-temperature season. e variation rules of pavement temperatures under the high-temperature range affect the design and maintenance management of the asphalt pavement, as well as the accurate prediction for pavement temperatures. However, asphalt pavement temperature is greatly affected by various strongly correlated environmental factors and cannot be measured directly or predicted effectively. In this pr… Show more

“…One type is based on traditional statistical models, and the other type is derived from modern machine learning models. Methods based on traditional statistical models are relatively extensive, including deterministic methods such as mechanical prediction models and mechanical-empirical prediction models [1][2][3][4][5][6], as well as probabilistic methods such as Markov probability models and Bayesian probability models [7][8][9][10].…”

“…For example, in order to meet the functional and structural requirements, the selection of bituminous binder grade is determined to address the local temperature condition [13,15]. Even though environmental factors are given serious consideration in pavements, distresses resulting from variations in these factors are unavoidable and are often significant [16][17][18]. The previous researcher investigated the effect of the environment on the pavement performance and reported influences on pavement environmental conditions (e.g., temperature and moisture profiles) in assessing material responses and predicting long-term performance [19].…”

“…Direct solar radiation and diffuse scattered solar radiation are also shortwave radiations and can be regarded as incoming shortwave radiation. The combined incoming solar radiation and effective long-wave radiation is called solar radiation [17]. Therefore, it is safe to say that heat can be transferred primarily by air, dynamic terrestrial radiation, and solar radiation [12,40,46].…”

“…From the ground observation point of view, data from the road weather information system (RWIS) provides continuous information about the RST together with information about atmospheric conditions, such as air temperature and humidity, at different sensor locations. Despite progress in many investigations using RWIS data worldwide [21][22][23], the performance of the RST prediction model is still limited in areas with sparse observations [24]. Therefore, a well-designed observation framework based on mobile platforms equipped with both road-surface and meteorological sensors is required to capture accurate road-weather information with high spatial and temporal resolutions in vulnerable regions [9].…”
