Prediction of Cutting Parameters of HVOF-Sprayed Stellite 6

Abstract: In this research, the authors set out to propose a new method of predicting and adjusting the main cutting parameters of chip machining, namely spraying on the substrate. In the experiments, a total of 28 turning cuts on a Stellite 6 coating layer were realized. The base materials of the Stellite 6 layers were EN S235JRG1 and carbide WC-Co. This work aimed to find out and optimize the influence of different combinations of cutting parameters. Due to the coating solution, the work is focused on the evaluation o… Show more

“…It is well indicated here that the adhesive strength and thus the stiffness of the adhesive bond is given by the suitable roughness Ra , or Rz of the surface of the substrate after its machining, and thus a suitable ratio between the size of the structural grain D gr of the coating spraying material. A suitable Ra / D gr ratio [ 29 ] limits the porosity and any decrease related to homogeneity and stiffness of the transition, which fully corresponds to the original predicted theoretical consideration expressed by the Equation (33): …”

“…Both Equations are derived by the authors of the article, they are experimentally and statistically verified and have been published for many years, e.g., [ 28 , 29 , 30 ], etc., or are also the content of patents [ 31 , 32 ]. They are very important in our application solutions because they simulate laboratory tensile and compressive tests for diagrams σ-ε , or σ- Δ h with relatively precise localization of the position and the value of the yield strength Re , and thus also the position of the neutral deformation plane h 0 and other stress-strain parameters of the materials.…”

“…Based on the relation (1), own measurement results, analyses and interpretations of obtained measurement results, a parameter characterizing tensile stress σ rz can be introduced, which can be expressed by the relation (19) after modifications [27,28].…”

“…Up to now, few reports are available on the precipitation of topological close-packed phases during high temperature oxidation process. In order to obtain a higher quality coated surface, many researchers have carried out related research, for example, Fernande-Abia proposed a mechanistic model for cutting forces in turning with nose radius tools [23][24][25][26]. In addition, generally MCrAlY coatings were widely deposited on superalloy by thermal spray technology including low-pressure plasma spraying, air plasma spraying and high velocity oxy/air fuel, physical vapor deposition and electron beam-physical vapor deposition, depending on the coating technical requirements.…”
