Metrics & MoreArticle Recommendations I t is my pleasure to write the preface for this Festschrift issue in the honor of my long-time colleague, Professor Jim Yang Lee, who retired recently from the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering (ChBE) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Jim Yang is a Professional Engineer (Chemical Engineering) and a member of the Professional Engineers Board of Singapore. He was a Senior Principal Fellow of the Energy Studies Institute (ESI) of Singapore during 2008−2021, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Engineering of Singapore. After one year at Singapore's Esso refinery, his passion for academia and innovation led him to graduate studies at Michigan and postdoctoral studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Since then, Jim Yang has devoted his entire career to the National University of Singapore. Jim Yang has served NUS, Singapore, and the Chemical Engineering profession in many impactful ways since 1987. Most notably, he was as the Head of ChBE from 2009 to 2017, during which time the department quickly reached unprecedented heights in both rankings and reputation. His clear pragmatic thinking and judicious managerial decisions contributed to a diverse, cohesive, visible, and strong ChBE. Before this headship, he was a Program Co-Chair of the Singapore-MIT alliance on molecular engineering of biological and chemical systems for seven years.
