Preliminary study in the evaluation of anti‐aging cosmetic treatment using two complementary methods for assessing skin surface

Abstract: The results of this study show that both complementary technologies (Visioscan and Primos) are appropriate for characterizing the skin surface and could be useful in testing the efficacy of anti-aging properties. There are some measurements which are unique to just one method, none, however, seems to be significantly more useful for efficacy testing than the other.

“…However, this parameter also refers to the uniformity of the skin surface, reflecting the level of its dryness and overall conditions. Therefore, the higher the homogeneity value, the better the skin condition …”

“…The skin wrinkles analysis showed very similar values on all regions and groups. This parameter is closely related to skin aging and presence of fine wrinkles, being calculated from the proportion of horizontal and vertical wrinkles . Usually, the normal/dry skin is known for having more prominent fine lines, but as we are studying a mature skin group of participants, there is a presence of this characteristic in all skin types, as it is directly related to the loss of collagen and transepidermal water loss.…”

“…This instrument is now well published and has been used successfully in a variety of dermatological applications [37]. Despite the fact that this instrument does not perform a direct measure of 3D surface topography but, rather, infers these parameters via analysis of the contrast-rich close-up digital images of the skin surface acquired, surprisingly good correlations with methods such as fringe projection have been reported [38]. Results from this study show clearly that the GSS complex promoted a smoother, less wrinkled SC surface after both 4 and 8 weeks of daily treatment.…”
