Preliminary Study on Perlis State Soil Series and Its Implication on Water Storage and Irrigation

Abstract: The over irrigation method applies to meet crop demand may not be a sustainable approach in the near future. Considering agricultural water demand constitutes a huge water consumption than the portable demand, alternative to the over-irrigation practice could be explored as over-irrigation could lead to water wastage and groundwater pollution. The current study investigates the Perlis state soil by determining the minimal water storage in the soil to maintain crop water demand. All the soil series in the state… Show more

“…However, the traditional way of watering the crop may cause a waste of water resources, time, and energy consumption and is even costly as everything is manual. The waste of water resources usually happens to the normalize practice by most farmers to over-irrigate the crop field because of low cost of water on high value crops [2]. Fig.…”

“…One of the most common structurally unstable soils in Uzbekistan is loess soil. Loess soils, when exposed to water, significantly lose their strength characteristics, physical and mechanical properties, and change their original structure [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. These changes in soil are referred to as subsidence.…”

“…The study's goals are to (1) identify the soil series in Perlis, and classify the soil series into soil texture, (2) calculate the soil series' FC, PWP, and PAW, and (3) quantify the uncertainty of PAW. The current work was extended from Goh and Fadhli [18].…”
