Premixed bioceramics: A novel pulp capping agent

Abstract: The main aim of restorative dentistry is to protect the vitality of the Pulp tissue. The pin point carious expoure and iatrogenic errors warrant the need for various pulp capping procedures like Indirect Pulp Capping and Direct Pulp Capping. Pulp Capping is dressing of the dental pulp exposed due to mechanical procedure, carious lesion or traumatic injury to preserve its vitality and function. There has been constant evolution and research on materials used to cap the Pulp tissue. The different kind of chemica… Show more

“…NeoMTA 2 is a modified version of NeoMTA plus, which was proven to be stain-free in laboratory studies and has a success rate similar to MTA in primary molar pulpotomies [16][17][18]. The premixed bioceramics were first introduced in 2007 by a Canadian company as iRoot SP injectable root canal sealer, and in 2008 they were made available in North America as EndoSequence ® BC sealer/RRM/RRM-Fast Set Putty™, and recently in Europe as TotalFill ® BC sealer/RRM Paste/RRM Putty/Fast putty™ [19,20]. Even though these materials are sold under different brand names, they have the same composition, and physical and biological properties [21].…”

“…Even though these materials are sold under different brand names, they have the same composition, and physical and biological properties [21]. The premixed calcium silicate-based bioceramics materials are stain-free, ready to use without mixing, and exhibit comparable physical and chemical properties to MTA with better handling properties [19][20][21][22][23]. Recently, NeoPUTTY ® was introduced to the market as another premixed bioceramic that was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2020.…”

“…Various studies have examined the characteristics of bicoeramics and the potential advantages of these materials[ 12 , 13 ]. Bioceramics are bio-inert, biocompatible, and non-toxic[ 14 ].…”

“…BioAggregate has excellent cellular compatibility in vitro and is a possible alternative to MTA for pulp capping [ 55 ]. BC Putty also has comparable biocompatibility with MTA for pulp tissue and can induce the formation of restorative dentin bridge [ 151 , 152 , 153 ]. Biodentine and MTA Angelus lead to satisfactory results in vitro, showing a light inflammatory response and pronounced barrier formation for mineralization [ 154 ].…”
