Preparation and characterization of nanofibrillated Cellulose/Poly (Vinyl Alcohol) composite films

Abstract: Poly (vinyl alcohol) based composite films with different loadings of cellulose nanofibrils were prepared using a solvent casting method and their tensile, optical and wettability properties were tested. The morphology of both neat poly (vinyl alcohol) and nanocomposites was explored by using a field emission scanning electron microscope technique. Results indicated that the tensile strength and Young's modulus of poly (vinyl alcohol) composite films were significantly improved with the increase of cellulose n… Show more

“…Since the proposed bioink formulation is composed from polysaccharides (e.g., ALG, CMC, and NFC, although there is some controversy in this regard as shown in [48], where NFC seemed to increase the contact angles of the base film composite samples), known for their hydrophilic nature, we expected that a bioink possesses high surface wettability. It is known that wettability, along with surface topography, determines cell/material interactions, whereas wettability itself is affected by material chemistry and topography.…”

“…During the last decades, both ecological and economic interests have resulted in a more intensive utilization of natural and recycled materials for development composites (Kim et al 2007, Najafi 2013, Ou et al 2014, Nafchi et al 2015, Kord et al 2016. Issues such as recyclability and environmental safety have become important for introduce composites materials in several markets (AlMaadeed et al 2014a, Kord et al 2016).…”

“…Issues such as recyclability and environmental safety have become important for introduce composites materials in several markets (AlMaadeed et al 2014a, Kord et al 2016). An important group of these materials is represented by lignocellulosic fibers reinforced thermoplastic polymers.…”

“…In addition, there are number of studies revealing properties of MFC/NFC suspensions and their films (Saito et al 2007, Bismarck et al 2005, Dri et al 2013, Viana et al 2016. Besides, new trend related to MFC/NFC is of their composites with inorganic/organic polymers (Kord et al 2016, Poyraz et al 2017).…”
