Preparation and in vitro release kinetics of nitrendipine-loaded PLLA–PEG–PLLA microparticles by supercritical solution impregnation process

Abstract: In this work, drug-loaded polymer microparticles were prepared by a supercritical solution impregnation (SSI) process with nitrendipine as the model drug and PLLA–PEG–PLLA as the drug carrier.

“…PLA is a synthetic biopolymer belonging to the family of aliphatic polyesters that has been extensively used for the supercritical impregnation of bioactive compounds [ 12 ]. PLA foams have been employed for the supercritical impregnation of cinnamaldehyde [ 13 ], and thymol [ 14 , 15 ]; it was also employed for the loading of aspirin in film form [ 16 ] and as a particle it was used for nitrendipine [ 17 ], ketoprofen and carvone [ 18 ], diclofenac [ 19 ], dihydroquercetin and α-tocopheryl succinate [ 20 ].…”

“…The n value is an exponent that describes the release kinetics process 13 . It was smaller than 0.45 for all concentrations of CA + Vit.D 3 , indicating that the drug was released from CA + Vit.D 3 predominantly via the Fickian diffusion mechanism under swollen conditions (i.e., when the pores of the nanofibrous mat were filled with water) 62,63 …”
