Preparation, Characterization and Anti-Complementary Activity of Three Novel Polysaccharides from Cordyceps militaris

Abstract: This investigation focuses on the three novel polysaccharides from Cordyceps militaris and then discusses their characterization and anti-complementary activity. The three polysaccharides from C. militaris (CMP-1, CMP-2 and CMP-3) were prepared using a DEAE-52 cellulose column. The HPLC, HPGPC, FT-IR and Congo red analyses were used to characterize their monosaccharides, molecular weight and stereo conformation, which demonstrated that the three polysaccharides were homogenous polysaccharides with different mo… Show more

“…The POP was prepared by water extraction and the alcohol precipitation method according to previous study (Fu et al, 2020 ; Hu et al, 2022 ). Briefly, the material of P. odoratum was crushed into powder and refluxed twice with deionized water (liquid–solid ratio at 10:1) at 100°C for 2 h. The extracted solution (about 5 L) was pooled and further concentrated to 1/7 of the initial volume under reduced pressure at 50°C.…”

“…The specific parameters are shown in Table 3. Hu et al [68] purified three new polysaccharides from Cordyceps militaris, and their total sugar contents were all higher than 90%. And their molecular weights were observed to be significantly higher than those of the polysaccharides that were reported previously.…”

“…Three polysaccharides were subjected to DEAE-52 column chromatography, collected, concentrated, dialyzed and lyophilized. Similarly, Hu et al [68] obtained three novel polysaccharides from Cordyceps militaris using this method. Sun et al [69] prepared a novel neutral exopolysaccharide (EPS-III) from culture broth of Cordyceps militaris.…”

“…Molecular weight (MW) is also considered to be a crucial factor in the structure characterization of C. speciosa polysaccharides. Common methods used to determine the molecular weights of polysaccharides include HPGPC, vapor osmotic pressure (VPO), viscosity, light scattering, mass spectrometry (MS), and chromatography [47,48]. Based on these techniques, the MWs of various C. speciosa polysaccharides mentioned and discussed in this paper are shown in Table 1.…”
