Preparation, Characterization, and Antibacterial Activity of Silver Nanoparticle-Decorated Graphene Oxide Nanocomposite

Abstract: In this work, we report a facile and green approach to prepare a uniform silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) decorated graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposite (GO-Ag). The nanocomposite was fully characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra, ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption spectra, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), which demonstrated that AgNPs with a diameter of approximately 22 nm were uniformly and compactly deposited on GO. To investigate the silve… Show more

“…17 The efficiency of silver salts and AgNPs as bactericides can be increased by combining them to other organic antimicrobial agents, as polymers and antibiotics, with several records of synergism. 31,32 Kora and Rastogi 33 observed antibacterial activity of AgNPs capped with citrate, sodium dodecylsulfate and polyvinylpyrrolidone combined with streptomycin, ampicillin, and tetracycline, which were evaluated with Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, employing a disc diffusion assay. Shahverdi et al 34 investigated the synergistic antibacterial effect for the combination of AgNPs with fourteen antibiotics.…”

“…The peak at 232 nm indicated the π-π* transition of the aromatic C-C bond, and the shoulder at 300 nm was derived from the n−π* transition of C=O bonds. 28 FTIR analysis provided information about the functional groups present in GO ( Figure S1C). The broad and intense peak centered at around 3,400 cm -1 was related to OH groups, while a peak at around 1,730 cm -1 corresponded to the stretching vibrations of C=O carboxylic moieties.…”
