Preparation of Polymeric Solids based on Porphyrins and Preliminary Investigation of the Catalytic Activity in Cyclooctene Oxidation

Abstract

Synthetic metalloporphyrins (MP) have been widely investigated as catalysts in oxidation reactions, mainly regarding the mimicking of cytochrome P-450 enzymes, both in homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis studies, showing promising results. Heterogeneous catalysis has advantages over the homogeneous one, like the possibility of the catalyst reuse in other catalytic cycles. In the present work, is reported the preparation of polymeric structures through reaction between the free base porphyrin (P) or the metalloporphyrin (MP) and the diisocyanate 4,4'diphenyl methane (MDI), that was performed in a similar reaction to those used for synthesis of polyurethanes (PU), obtaining insoluble solids in common organic solvents (SP and SMPx). The presence of metalloporphyrins in the solids was confirmed by UV-Vis and infrared vibrational spectroscopy. The solid SMP1 showed catalytic activity similar to the metalloporphyrin MP in solution (homogeneous catalysis) in cis-cyclooctene oxidation, being easily recovered and reused in another catalytic cycle.Keywords: Porphyrin; polyurethane; heterogeneous catalysis; oxidation. ResumoMetaloporfirinas (MP) sintéticas têm sido amplamente investigadas como catalisadores em reações de oxidação, principalmente em estudos biomiméticos envolvendo as enzimas da família do citocromo P-450, tanto em estudos de catálise homogênea quanto heterogênea, apresentando resultados promissores. A catálise heterogênea possui vantagens em relação à homogênea, como, por exemplo, a possibilidade de reuso do catalisador em diversos ciclos catalíticos. No presente trabalho, é reportada a preparação de estruturas poliméricas por meio da reação entre a porfirina base livre (P) ou a metaloporfirina (MP) e o 4,4'-diisocianato de difenilmetano (MDI), em reações análogas às utilizadas na síntese de poliuretanos (PU), cujos resultados levaram à obtenção de sólidos insolúveis em solventes orgânicos comuns (designados SP e SMPx). A presença da porfirina ou da metaloporfirina nos sólidos poliméricos foi confirmada por espectroscopia eletrônica no UV-Vis e vibracional no infravermelho. O sólido SMP1 apresentou atividade catalítica similar à apresentada pela metaloporfirina MP em solução
