Preparation of Zeolite Y Using Local Raw Material Rice Husk as a Silica Source

Abstract: The locally available rice husk is found to provide a good alternative source of highly active silica for the synthesis of zeolites. The present synthesis of zeolite Y using seed and feed gel method yields maximum crystallinity and rich in zeolite Y and which shows the absence of other impurities. This compared with preparation of zeolite Y seeding and without seeding ethods using commercial silica which yields a mixture of zeolite Y and P. mKeywods: Rice husk; Zeolite Y; Seeding method; Ageing method; Highly … Show more

“…Also as the alkali metals that naturally occur in ash in many biomass species and some wastes are known to have a catalytic effect we have used rice husk ash as one of the catalysts in the pyrolysis experiments. Rice husk ash is known to comprise of 90-97% silica, and has been used as a catalyst support and good synthesis precursor for zeolites catalysts [38][39][40].…”

“…The characteristic peaks of Y zeolite at 2Ɵ = 6.5° (2), 10.1° (3), 15.6° (6) and 23.7°(7) [19] indicate the its formation. The pattern is matching with that of commercial zeolite Y (Fig.…”

“…A síntese de zeólitas pode ser realizada por qualquer matéria prima que contenha predominância de sílica e alumina, como por exemplo, argilas e cinzas da casca de arroz (Baccouche et al, 1998;Maia et al, 2007;Mignoni et al, 2007;Foletto et al, 2009;Rahman et al, 2009). No entanto, o uso de cinza de carvão é mais explorado devido à quantidade significativa desse resíduo gerado ao redor do mundo.…”
