Preparing Bi12SiO20 crystals at low temperature through nontopotactic solid-state transformation and improving its photocatalytic activity by etching

Abstract: The egg-tart shaped BiOCl hierarchitectures with efficient visible-light photocatalytic activity were prepared through etching of Bi12SiO20 obtained at low temperature.

“…This phenomenon is consistent with a previous report. 35 In addition, if the whole reaction system was controlled at 120 °C for 24 h, a pure BFO product could be also prepared (Fig. 6), which further proved the rationality of our viewpoint.…”

“…This fact implies that this reaction temperature (90°C) is too low, such that the BFO sample fails to form. 35 In addition, if the whole reaction system was controlled at 120°C for 24 h, a pure BFO product could be also prepared (Fig. 5b).…”

“…In literature the reported bandgap energy of BSO varies between 2.2 and 3.4 eV. [ 13,20,44–46 ] The plot shows that the bandgap energy of BSO decreases with the incorporation of Cr in the lattice (Table 2). To examine the correlation between the effect of Cr doping on the lattice parameter and the bandgap energy, both are shown in Figure 8 as a function of Cr concentration.…”

“…In the Bi 2 O 3 -SiO 2 system there is a large number of crystalline ternary bismuth compounds, such as Bi 2 SiO 5 , Bi 4 Si 3 O 12 and Bi 12 SiO 20 [10][11][12][13][14]. One of the most common compounds in the Aurivillius [15][16][17][18][19][20].…”
