“…When the therapy was initiated before weaning from CPB, a highly significant decrease in postoperative low cardiac output state was observed . In addition to their inotropic effect, these drugs have a peripheral vasodilator effect and an anti‐inflammatory effect, the exact mechanism of which is still unclear . Trying to determinate precisely how much each of the three effects contributes to the improvement in clinical outcome seems rather utopian.…”

“…28 Some studies have shown that an increased infl ammatory response correlates with the incidence of early postoperative AF. 29 It has been reported that olprinone showed antiinfl ammatory eff ects in experimental models of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury, 30 lipopolysaccharide-induced lung injury, 31 ischemiareperfusion-induced acute renal injury, 16 and endotoxic shock. 32 In the present study, patients in the olprinone group showed signifi cantly lower WBC counts and CRP levels aft er surgery compared with the placebo group.…”

“…However, increasing cAMP PDE3 inhibitors may also modulate an inflammation. Pretreatment with olprinone in a rat model of LPS-induced endotoxemia inhibited neutrophil influx into the lung, suppressed pro-inflammatory cytokines TNFα and IL-6, and increased anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 [137]. Olprinone given immediately after induction of sepsis in mice prevented a development of sepsis-associated ALI and improved a survival of septic animals [138].…”
