PRIGo: a new multi-axis goniometer for macromolecular crystallography

Abstract: The Parallel Robotics Inspired Goniometer (PRIGo) is a novel compact and high-precision goniometer providing an alternative to (mini-)kappa, traditional three-circle goniometers and Eulerian cradles used for sample reorientation in macromolecular crystallography. Based on a combination of serial and parallel kinematics, PRIGo emulates an arc. It is mounted on an air-bearing stage for rotation around ! and consists of four linear positioners working synchronously to achieve x, y, z translations and rotation (0-… Show more

“…On a single crystal, 4 × 360° data sets were collected at 100 K at a wavelength of 2.075 Å with 0.1° oscillation 0.1 s exposure in four different orientations of a multi‐axis goniometer (Waltersperger et al , 2015), as previously described (Weinert et al , 2015). The sample‐to‐detector distance was set to 120 mm.…”

“…The detector was vertically translated by 67 mm to increase the maximum resolution to 0.67 Å. The X-ray diffraction data were collected from a single crystal mounted onto the multi-axis PRIGo goniometer [37] using the DA+ acquisition software [38]. Data were collected at the [39].…”

“…High multiplicity achieved at reduced dose in multiple orientation has proved very effective for achieving satisfactory signal-to-noise [18]. This approach requires use of a multi-axis goniometer such as PRIGo [19]. When radiation damage is a concern, data from different crystals may be used to improve data quality [20,21].…”
